This cam grinder has been developed over a period of several years grinding camshafts for hobbiests who are building 1/4 scale I.C engines. It is intended to allow the builder to focus on building his own camshaft without all the hassle of designing and constructing a cam grinding machine. It can be used on a Bridgeport type mill with a grinding motor/spindle assembly mounted onto the underside of the ram, (plans available for building this) or a toolpost grinder could be mounted in the same manner. It could also be attached to a tool & cutter grinder, or mounted on a surface grinder.It could be mounted to a plate with an X-Y table and grinding motor/spindle, many options open to the user based on what equipment is available.Making accurate cam lobe profile "masters" is the most difficult part of the cam grinding process. I stock most commonly used masters, and have a process for accurately grinding masters for most any other shape.
